New World Screwworm

New World screwworm (NWS) is a serious pest of livestock and wildlife that can cause severe wounds, infections, and significant animal health impacts when its larvae infest living tissue. NWS poses a threat to agricultural health and safety by affecting animal welfare, reducing livestock productivity, and increasing management and veterinary costs. The USDA suggests the U.S. food supply remains safe and the current risk to animals and people in the United States is very low.
