Low back pain is one of the most common and disabling health concerns among workers in physically demanding occupations, yet limited research has focused on effective interventions in agricultural settings, particularly for horticulture workers. Previous studies have also identified concerning rates of opioid use associated with work-related injuries and chronic pain. In this webinar, Drs. Kim Dunleavy and Janeen Blythe will present an ongoing research project aimed at reducing low back pain and opioid-related risks among nursery and landscape employees. Participants will learn about the study’s goals, including increasing awareness of opioid risks, promoting non-medication pain management strategies, and reducing ergonomic risk factors in the workplace. The presenters will also share insights into the development of tailored educational video modules designed specifically for nursery and landscape businesses, highlighting how industry-informed approaches can support worker health, safety, and long-term well-being. This session will be valuable for horticulture professionals, employers, Extension personnel, researchers, and others interested in occupational health within the green industry.
