In this presentation, Julie Sorensen, Ph.D., director of the Northeast Center for Occupational Health and Safety: Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing in Cooperstown, NY, will give an overview of a “proof of concept” study examining the impacts of sleep deprivation in U.S. commercial fisheries. With so little known about sleep deprivation and the intersection of health in commercial fishing, this project has identified some key areas for future research, as well as laid the groundwork for future studies. The presentation will cover subject recruitment, health surveys, in-person health assessments, and Actigraphy trials, as well as results, providing a template for further understanding and exploration.
